Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the changes shown in the two maps, identifying major alterations such as the addition of the outdoor seating, barbecue, salad bar, and the reorganisation of the food serving areas. However, there are significant omissions of key details, such as the removal of the staff dining rooms and the retention of the kitchen location. Furthermore, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement of 150 words, containing only 134 words. This under-length limitation directly impacts the level of detail and development expected for a Band 6, resulting in a score of 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into a short introduction and three brief body paragraphs, attempting an overall structure for a comparison task. However, the logical progression is hindered by repetitive phrasing and awkward transitions such as 'To be beging with'. Cohesive devices are mechanically applied and referencing is sometimes unclear, for instance, 'its remain same as before' and 'with new place such as hot meals'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the extreme brevity of the text prevents a fully coherent and fluid organisation. Overall, the structural control aligns with a Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on informal or inaccurate phrasing such as 'illustrat', 'recreated', 'how does it seems now', and 'newstyled places'. While the student successfully employs some task-specific nouns like 'kitchen', 'barbecue', and 'salad bar', word choices and collocations show noticeable errors (e.g., 'serving area... has renew with new place'). The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, but frequent word-formation and choice errors place it firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent and intrusive errors. Examples include tense and auxiliary verb errors ('how does it seems now', 'some places's design has not been change', 'its remain same', 'is still has its own place', 'has been create'). Complex sentence attempts are consistently flawed. Although the meaning can mostly be deciphered, the high density of basic grammatical errors impedes fluent reading and restricts the score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on general control.
