Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word length requirement of 150 words, coming in at only 114 words, which significantly impacts Task Achievement. While the student attempts to highlight several changes between the two plans—such as the addition of the outdoor BBQ, seating area, salad bar, and the conversion of staff dining rooms into a take-away and coffee bar—the overview is underdeveloped and lacks a comprehensive summary of the major spatial transformations. Furthermore, some details are slightly imprecise, and the overall progression is limited by the brevity of the response. To improve, ensure all key features are covered thoroughly and that the word count exceeds the 150-word threshold.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is structured into very brief paragraphs, but the organization is disjointed and lacks clear overall progression. Sentences tend to be isolated observations rather than cohesive parts of a well-linked narrative. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes awkward, as seen in abrupt transitions like 'Now the cafe's area is expanded...' and 'whereas area of recycling bin is expanded more.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a proper introduction and concluding summary weakens the overall structure. To achieve a higher band, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive markers to logically connect sentences and group related spatial changes into coherent paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the quality of the writing. Examples of errors include 'toilts' (toilets), 'dinig' (dining), 'chaires' (chairs), and 'befor' (before). While the student attempts some task-specific terminology such as 'relocated', 'redesigned', and 'take away', the range is limited and inadequate for a fully articulated academic response. Spelling mistakes like 'desined' instead of 'designed' further highlight a lack of precision. To improve, the student should expand their range of descriptive vocabulary and practice accurate spelling of common architectural and directional terms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences with occasional attempts at passive voice or prepositional phrases ('is redesigned', 'are desined in new plan'). There are noticeable errors in tense usage, article omission, and word order, such as 'where it was staff dinning rooms were located' and 'Indoor dinig and chaires are at same place in both befor of after.' Punctuation is also sparse and sometimes faulty. These errors occasionally cause slight strain for the reader, keeping the grammar score at the lower end. Incorporating more complex sentence patterns and ensuring rigorous proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy will help raise this score.
