Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response successfully covers all the key features of the two diagrams. You have noted the retention of the kitchen and toilets, the conversion of the staff dining rooms into a take-away food area and coffee bar, the addition of the salad bar, recycling bins, outdoor seating area, and barbecue spot. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, capturing general changes such as increased area and new facilities. However, the overview is slightly simplistic and lacks precision. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, some descriptions are brief, which places this performance in the Band 6 range.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response is arranged coherently with an introduction, body paragraphs detailing specific changes, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is attempted, although the structure could be improved for smoother transitions between spatial features. Cohesive devices are used, but some phrases like 'To begining with' and 'Morover' are mechanically applied or contain spelling errors. Referencing between locations ('opposite to the salad bar at the right corner') is generally understandable but occasionally awkward. Progression is present, moving logically from interior changes to exterior additions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with domain-specific terms such as 'cafeteria', 'renovation process', 'salad bar', and 'recycling bin' correctly employed. However, there are notable word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as 'demostrate' (demonstrate), 'looking' (look/appearance), 'coffe' (coffee), and 'comertable' (comfortable). Attempts to use less common vocabulary result in errors that occasionally draw attention, though they do not impede overall communication. A Band 6 reflects this mix of adequate terms and persistent lexical slips.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Moreover, new stations like barbecue, salad bar and coffe bar can be seen today.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors including missing prepositions, incorrect verb forms ('may ot changed' instead of 'may not have changed'), and spelling errors in inflections ('demostrate', 'To begining with'). Punctuation is also sparse, particularly regarding comma splices and missing commas after introductory transitional phrases. The majority of sentences contain errors, limiting the score to Band 5.
