Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response attempts to cover the main features of the two plans, noting key changes such as the addition of a barbecue, salad bar, outdoor seating, and the replacement of staff dining rooms with a coffee bar and take-away area. However, there are notable limitations. The overview lacks clarity and precision, and some details are imprecise or awkwardly phrased (e.g., 'college cafe had dining rooms and after renovation cafe were outdoor seating'). The selection of features is somewhat incomplete, and the development of ideas remains quite basic. It addresses the task adequately to earn a band 5.5, but falls short of band 6.0 due to underdeveloped comparisons and frequent structural imprecision in reporting data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text attempts a logical division of paragraphs, separating the introduction, menu changes, facility changes, and overall summary. However, the organisation is undermined by awkward linking phrases and poor cohesion. For example, paragraphs begin with abrupt transitions like 'Firstly, the main change was their menu, today in which cafe have...' and 'in addtion college cafe had staff dining rooms...'. Furthermore, referencing is frequently unclear, and punctuation or capitalisation errors (e.g., lowercase letters at the start of sentences like 'in present they were provided') disrupt the flow. Overall, the arrangement shows some rudimentary organisation, but cohesive devices are inaccurate and mechanical, placing it firmly at band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple terms such as 'cafe', 'changes', 'food', and 'seating'. There are noticeable lexical and spelling errors throughout, including 'reconstruted' for reconstructed, 'feactures' for features, 'addtion' for addition, and 'coffe' for coffee. The student attempts to use some less common items like 'barbecue facility', 'salad bar', and 'outdoor seating', but word choice and collocation are often strained (e.g., 'food siting are divided salad bar and coffe section had also sitting'). The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, resulting in a band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent errors in basic sentence construction, tense consistency, and prepositions. Sentences often lack proper grammatical scaffolding, leading to severe awkwardness, such as 'today in which cafe have barbecue facility and salad bar, that was not available before. in present they were provided hot meals and provide take away services.' Subject-verb agreement issues and tense confusion (mixing past and present haphazardly) are widespread. Because errors occur constantly and frequently cause difficulty or strain for the reader, the grammar performance aligns with a band 4.0.
