Student answer (Band 4.0)

The image below shows how the college cafe was before redesigning and how it looks now.

Overall, this can substequently expalin by selecting and contrasting the changes which has ben repalced by modern amenities.

To begain with, previously the cafeteria was quiet decent and with less acess and convinent. Whereas, after redesiging it consists of several differnt counters which will help students to get easy acesess to each of them. The kitchen has put near the proximity area, In front of this salad bar is there and out side the kitchen a new barbeque counter and outdoor detting have been placed.

Inside the kitchen there is also a sitting area through which we can take food and enjoy having a cup of coffee by gossiping with friends. Peviously, there was only one entry for the cafe but now there are two. The another one is beside the refershing room which also opens in outdoor seating. Futher, there is no changes with recycling bins.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The student attempts to describe the changes shown in the plans, noting the replacement of the staff dining rooms with a take-away food counter and coffee bar, the addition of a salad bar, outdoor seating, and a barbecue. However, the overview is extremely vague and contains non-sensical phrasing ("this can substequently expalin by selecting and contrasting the changes which has ben repalced by modern amenities"). Furthermore, several details are confused or misread, such as the claim that "inside the kitchen there is also a sitting area." The response meets the minimum length requirement, but the lack of accurate reporting and a coherent summary keeps it at Band 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response is divided into brief paragraphs, but the logical flow is heavily disrupted by poor sentence construction and confusing transitions. Introductory phrases like "To begain with" and "Whereas, after redesiging it consists of several differnt counters" demonstrate weak command of cohesive devices. Referencing is also unclear in places, such as "The another one is beside the refershing room," making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the various features on the cafe plans. Paragraphing is attempted, but overall organization is poor, fitting the Band 4 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.0

Lexical range is very basic and heavily impaired by persistent spelling mistakes. Examples include "substequently," "expalin," "ben," "repalced," "begain," "redesiging," "differnt," "acesess," "out side," and "detting." While the student attempts to use task-related vocabulary such as "cafeteria," "barbecue," and "outdoor seating," the high density of spelling errors and inappropriate word choices ("quiet decent" instead of "quite decent," "refershing room" instead of restrooms) strains the reader's understanding and places the response firmly at Band 4.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the text. The student relies on a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex or compound structures frequently result in serious errors. Examples include "the cafeteria was quiet decent and with less acess and convinent," "The kitchen has put near the proximity area," and "Futher, there is no changes with recycling bins." Subject-verb agreement, preposition use, and voice (active vs. passive) are frequently incorrect. Because errors are pervasive and often distort meaning, the response warrants a Band 4.0.
