Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response covers all key features of the two maps, successfully identifying the main transformations such as the replacement of the staff dining rooms with a take-away food and coffee bar, the addition of a salad bar, and the introduction of outdoor seating and a barbecue. An overview is attempted in the second paragraph, capturing the overall development of outdoor facilities and internal changes. However, there are minor inaccuracies in reporting specific details, such as mentioning new entrance ways which are actually existing doors leading to the new outdoor area, and some minor spatial misdescriptions. Overall, the response fulfills the task requirements adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression from internal modifications to external additions. Paragraphing is used to group related ideas, starting with an introduction and overview, followed by internal changes, eastern wall changes, and finally outdoor developments. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition to it', 'While', and 'Further changes', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or awkward (e.g., 'To its opposide'). Referencing is mostly clear, but paragraphing could be structured more cleanly to separate the overview from the introduction.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for describing a process of change, using terms such as 'modifications', 'partition', 'allocated', and 'convenience'. However, there are numerous lexical, spelling, and collocation errors throughout the text (e.g., 'architectual' instead of 'architectural', 'figures depicts' instead of 'figures depict', 'look a of cafe', 'opposide' instead of 'opposite', and 'barbeque'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5 or 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including passive voice constructions ('has been presented', 'has been replaced', 'has been widened'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'The two architectual figures depicts', 'It outdoor dining facilities now have been fully developed', 'there are some internal changes of area has been presented', 'There is no changes', 'each accesses also been constructed'). These errors occur frequently and occasionally draw the reader's attention, placing the response firmly in the Band 5.0 range.
