Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main changes and features of the college cafe before and after its redesign, satisfying the requirements for this level. The writer correctly notes that the kitchen and toilet areas remain the same, while pointing out new additions such as the salad bar, outdoor seating, and barbecue area. However, some ideas are under-developed or imprecise; for instance, the exact locations and transformations of several features lack clarity, such as stating that 'Bin is now turn into large area then before' when recycling bins replaced the original bin. To move to a higher band, the overview needs to clearly synthesise the most salient overall trends rather than relying on fragmented observations, and all key features should be reported with greater precision.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement in that it moves from general impressions to specific interior changes and then exterior additions, providing a basic framework for the information. However, the progression is hindered by very short, choppy paragraphs and repetitive sentence openings. Cohesive devices are faulty and mechanical, with overuse of simple transitional phrases like 'in some area' and vague referencing, such as 'This area is added after the redesinging', which makes the flow disjointed. Paragraphing is used, but the divisions are arbitrary and do not logically group related points together. To achieve a higher score, the response requires smoother transitions between sentences, clearer referencing to link ideas across the text, and a more unified paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate to convey basic information about the cafe redesign, attempting some less common items such as 'redesigned', 'redesinging', and 'fecalitys'. However, there is a noticeable lack of precision and numerous word choice and spelling errors, such as 'fecalitys' instead of facilities, 'devolopment', and 'keet' instead of kept, which impede smooth reading. Collocations are often unnatural, as seen in phrases like 'an information' and 'older conditions'. To reach the next band, the writer must expand their lexical range to include more sophisticated task-specific vocabulary—such as 'converted', 'relocated', and 'extended'—and eliminate basic spelling and word-choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response employs a limited mix of simple and minor attempts at complex sentence forms, though control over these structures is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, articles, and prepositions throughout the text, such as 'provides an information', 'How it was in past', and 'is remain same' instead of remains the same. Punctuation is also problematic, including sentence fragments like 'How it was in past and how it is looking now.' While these errors rarely completely impede overall communication, they occur with enough regularity to restrict the score to this band. To improve, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical agreements, avoid sentence fragments, and use more accurate verb forms when describing static plans and changes.
