Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by providing a clear overview of the main changes and selecting key features for comparison, such as the conversion of the staff dining rooms and the addition of the outdoor barbecue area. The information is generally accurate and well-grounded in the visual data. However, some aspects are slightly under-developed or contain minor inaccuracies in detail, such as misstating the original furniture in the staff dining rooms. To reach a higher level, the response would need to provide a more fully developed and precise comparison of all spatial changes without minor lapses in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from the introduction to the overview and body paragraphs. Information is structured into appropriate paragraphs, separating the previous layout from current modifications. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'overall', 'before the renovation', and 'in addition', though referencing and transitions occasionally feel slightly mechanical rather than entirely seamless. Progression is clear throughout, but more sophisticated and varied cohesive links would be required to move to a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items related to architectural changes and layout descriptions, such as 'redesign', 'converted', and 'facilities'. However, there are several spelling and word-choice errors that slightly detract from precision, including 'englarged' instead of enlarged, 'maily' instead of mainly, 'northeren' instead of northern, 'staffs dinning rooms' instead of staff dining rooms, and 'sealed bar' instead of salad bar. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect the limitations of the current lexical band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using structures like relative clauses and time markers. There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors present throughout the text, such as a missing capital letter at the beginning of the essay, a missing verb in 'the plans illustrates', incorrect prepositions or passive formations like 'the bin has been replaced to the recycling bin', and minor punctuation errors including a space before a comma. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, their persistence across simple and complex structures prevents the essay from achieving a higher score.
