Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response only partially addresses the task. First, it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as the text contains only 124 words. Second, while the writer attempts to report the main features of the cafe before and after the redesign, some spatial references are confused or inaccurate, such as placing the salad bar at the 'eastern most part' when it is located along the western wall. The overview is very brief, and details are somewhat limited and under-developed, which prevents a fuller representation of the visual data.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation in the response, but it lacks a clear overall progression. The writer attempts to link ideas using transitional phrases like 'To begine with', 'Further more', and 'Whereas', but cohesive devices are often awkward, inaccurate, or mechanical. Paragraphing is poorly handled, with the main body lumped into a single dense and confusing block of text. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, and the overall flow is hindered by abrupt shifts between different areas of the floor plan without a logical spatial sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey basic information about the changes. There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'collage' instead of 'college', 'begine', 'besaide', 'weere', 'constructud', and 'addditional', which can cause some difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary related to the prompt, such as 'newly introduced' and 'renovation', but overall lexical control is weak due to frequent slips in word form and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex or compound sentences are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and prepositions, such as missing commas, erratic spacing, and awkward phrasing like 'in the south most part' and 'in southwestern par of cafe'. Frequent grammatical errors, incorrect verb forms ('severs'), and missing articles occur throughout the text, which detracts from the clarity of the writing and requires effort from the reader to parse.
