Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making clear comparisons between the two plans. You successfully highlight key transformations, such as the conversion of the staff dining rooms into a take away food counter and coffee bar, the addition of a salad bar, and the introduction of the outdoor seating and barbecue area. The overview correctly identifies that while some features like the kitchen and toilets remain in their original positions, major changes have occurred both indoors and outdoors. Your ideas are relevant and well-supported with specific details from the diagrams, fulfilling the requirements for this level. To reach a higher band, you could ensure that all minor details, such as the specific layout changes on the eastern wall, are integrated even more seamlessly into a cohesive comparative narrative.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into an introduction, an overview paragraph, and body paragraphs detailing the indoor and outdoor changes. You use some logical connectors and referencing throughout the text, such as 'Before, the cafe had...' and 'The main addition is...'. However, cohesion can feel slightly mechanical at times due to repetitive sentence openings and basic transitional phrasing. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the response, but smoother logical progression between sentences would enhance the flow. To improve further, work on varying your cohesive devices and ensuring seamless links between the indoor transformations and the new outdoor features.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary to complete the task successfully. You attempt less common vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'redesigning', 'amenities', 'preparation area', and 'recession/recycling bins' (though with some inaccuracies). There are several noticeable word-choice, word-form, and spelling errors that slightly impede communication, such as 'depicts that how', 'features remains', 'Dinning', 'preperation', 'remianed', and 'sitting options'. These lexical slips prevent the response from achieving a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering common collocations related to architectural plans and graphs, and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms like 'dining' and 'preparation'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and introductory prepositional phrases such as 'In addition to this, a Barbecue station is also provided...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'features remains' and awkward phrasing such as 'depicts that how a cafe looks'. Articles and prepositions also occasionally show minor inaccuracies, for example, 'serving area in the kitchen' or 'at the right bottom of cafe'. However, these errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the response. To progress, aim for greater control over complex sentence structures and eliminate basic agreement and article slips.
