Student answer (Band 6.0)

Details about the plan showing a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now is delineated by the provided two map.

Overall, looking at the chart comprehensively, it is conspicuously cognized that cafe had underwent a massive transformation. A myriad of facilities are: expanded, opened newly and demolished for new developments.

Scrutinizing deeper into the obtainable information, in the central area the rooms for staff dining were demolished and are replaced by takeaway food and coffee bar. A new salad bar is opened in western side and area for recycling bins is expanded which was not even in existence before redesign. Kitchen area had also undergone some changes such as serving area is replaced with the hot meal area.

Digging deeper into the layouts, the outdoor area is transformed in cafe today which is never existed in the cafe before redesign. At the outdoor area, outdoor seating are arranged for costumers and a barbecue area is newly developed in the western side in vicinity of outdoor seating. The area designated for toilets remained untouched.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features and making clear comparisons between the two plans. An overall trend is provided at the beginning, and key changes such as the conversion of the staff dining rooms into a takeaway food area and coffee bar, the addition of a salad bar, and the creation of an outdoor seating area and barbecue zone are well-noted. While the ideas are relevant and supported with appropriate details, some descriptions could be further extended to reach a higher level of development. Overall, the visual data is interpreted accurately without major omissions or factual errors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The report demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at logical progression from the general overview to specific layout changes. Paragraphing is used to separate different sections of the cafe, such as the central transformations and the newly added outdoor area. However, cohesion at times feels somewhat mechanical or repetitive in its transitioning phrases, such as 'Scrutinizing deeper into the obtainable information' and 'Digging deeper into the layouts'. Referencing is generally functional, but smoother transitions and a more natural flow between sentences would enhance the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'delineated', 'transformation', 'demolished', and 'vicinity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form, such as 'two map' instead of 'two maps', 'conspicuously cognized', and the awkward phrasing 'area for recycling bins is expanded which was not even in existence'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a vocabulary control that sits securely at the mid-level range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are sometimes marred by grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement and articles, such as 'cafe had underwent' instead of 'the cafe had undergone', 'in western side' missing an article, and 'which is never existed' instead of 'which never existed'. Punctuation and concluding conventions, such as 'herby, I conclude my report.', also show weaknesses. These errors occur frequently enough to affect the overall grammatical control, constraining the response in this area.
