Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to describe the changes between the two plans, the information presented is very limited and lacks precision. Key features such as the removal of staff dining rooms, the addition of the salad bar, coffee bar, and outdoor seating are mentioned, but they are underdeveloped. Furthermore, the description contains inaccurate generalisations and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to select and report more comprehensive key features with accurate comparisons, ensuring that all major transformations shown in the visual data are clearly outlined.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation with paragraph breaks separating the introduction, the description of the former layout, the present layout, and a concluding remark. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical sequencing between these paragraphs. Cohesive devices are very basic, repetitive, and sometimes inaccurate, such as using 'The last thing' and 'Cafe nowadays'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow of ideas is disjointed. To improve, the writer must use a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly and establish a clear logical progression throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The student relies on basic, repetitive vocabulary, using terms like 'cafe', 'parts', and 'things' repeatedly throughout the response. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling ('wsa redesighned', 'graps', 'arrenge'), and word formation ('redesighned' instead of redesigned), which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to use a wider range of vocabulary appropriate for describing maps and physical changes, ensuring correct spelling and precision in word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at complex or compound structures are often faulty, such as in 'When it wsa redesighned and now its looks after redesigned' and 'The kitchen or serving area where all drinks and food are stored before manufacture.' Frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement ('its looks', 'The both graps give'), articles, and prepositions are present throughout the text and cause some difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer must incorporate a mix of accurate complex sentence forms and improve basic grammatical control.
