The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The two diagram shows the difference between the college cafe was and today. In old cafe design was too much mix up their was not proper arangment of things like they have lack of outdoor seating, salad bar and barbecue. But in today's design all the things are present. The outdoor seating area have great initiative some poeple donot like to sit in indoor environment. They want to get natural breeze. Beside this in updated cafe they have live barbeque setups so the people enjoy live cooking. Also in new cafe desingned they make seprate take away food counter so people or delivery rider easy pick up their food they donot need to rush on a main counter.
The last noticeable feature is coffe bar they are not present in old cafe. So in comming generation peoples like coffee so making its seprate counter is very beneficial for for cafe. From my prospective, the new cafe design is very impressive and attractive rather than the old one.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially by attempting to highlight some differences between the two layouts, such as the addition of the outdoor seating, salad bar, barbecue, and coffee bar. However, the overview is missing, and the information is presented in a somewhat disjointed manner rather than a structured summary. Some features from the original plan, such as the staff dining rooms, are misinterpreted as general disorganization rather than specific functional spaces. To reach a higher level, the response needs to present a clear overall trend or summary of the changes and ensure all key features are reported accurately and objectively without relying on personal commentary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The text shows some organisation, dividing the response into two main paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression or logical sequencing of the visual data. Cohesive devices are minimal, inadequate, and repetitive, with reliance on basic connectors like 'But', 'Also', and 'Beside this'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow of ideas lacks coherence, making it difficult to follow the spatial comparisons between the two plans. Improving the logical structure and using a wider range of cohesive devices smoothly would enhance the clarity of the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for describing the visual information. There are noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'arangment', 'desingned', 'seprate', and 'coffe', which occasionally cause strain for the reader. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the context, such as 'delivery rider' and 'live cooking', but inappropriate word choices and collocations persist throughout the text. To improve lexical resource, a broader range of precise descriptive vocabulary is needed, along with closer attention to accurate spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences. Attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, leading to frequent errors in grammar, punctuation, and article usage, such as 'The two diagram shows', 'their was not proper arangment', and 'peoples like coffee'. Agreement and preposition errors also occur throughout the response. These frequent grammatical errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a restricted control over sentence architecture. A greater variety of accurate complex structures and improved sentence-level control are required to move to a higher band.
