The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The Provided schema's depicts a college cafegteria before it was renovated and how it looks now ,so basically we have two map diagram first one is cafe before redesign and cafe today.
overall the cafe underwent significant development with major addition and major change.here we compare before and after major additions and removals in cafe.
On the northern/western side of cafe before redesign kitchen is already placed with combined serving area for all food and drink which makes a space very conjusted so while rebuilding cafe they took a very clever move they replaced all food serving area with Hot meals only and also they replaced staff dinning rooms with take away food and coffe bar which makes crowd less specifically on weekend the best move they pulled out with excahnging normal bin with recylce bin which leads to a big step toward green foot prints
Meanwhile if we look towards new additional features they enlarge there outdoor seating area with barbeque facility and that's perfect strategy to attract barbeque facinated people for barbeque they also built salad bar to add some fresh organic vegetables to barbeque which make barbeque more delicious
otherwise there are still things are unchanged like toilets and entry and exit position which make place with same vibe with enchanced features and really this was an amazing plan which attract coffee lovers and barbeque Aromatic person.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the college cafe before and after the redesign, while making relevant comparisons such as the changes to the serving area and the addition of outdoor seating. The overview outlines the general transformation of the cafe, meeting the requirements for this level. However, some parts are more fully developed than others, and the tone occasionally shifts into overly speculative commentary, such as evaluating whether changes were a clever move to attract barbecue-fascinated people, rather than maintaining a purely objective academic summary. To reach a higher band, the response would need to select and report the visual data with greater precision and maintain a consistently formal, analytical overview without personal interjections.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraphs, and concluding thoughts, representing the characteristics of this level. Information is generally organized logically, moving from the northern and western changes to outdoor and unchanged features. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and faulty. For instance, the transition phrases are quite informal and clunky, such as 'so basically we have two map diagram', and run-on structures appear due to inadequate punctuation between clauses. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and paragraphing lacks precise control. To achieve a higher band, the student should employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally, avoid run-on sentences, and structure paragraphs with clearer thematic separation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic comparisons about the cafe plans. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'significant development', 'green foot prints', and 'barbecue facility'. However, these attempts are often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and collocation, for example writing 'cafegteria' instead of cafeteria, 'map diagram' instead of maps or diagrams, 'conjusted' instead of congested, and 'coffe bar' instead of coffee bar. Additionally, phrases like 'barbecue facinated people' show a lack of precision. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. To improve, the student needs to expand their range of precise academic vocabulary and eliminate spelling errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response features a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, attempting structures like relative clauses and participial phrases. However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent, with frequent punctuation omissions such as missing full stops and commas, resulting in run-on sentences like 'the best move they pulled out with excahnging normal bin with recylce bin which leads to a big step toward green foot prints'. There are also minor agreement and article errors, such as 'they enlarge there outdoor seating area' and 'the cafe underwent significant development with major addition and major change'. These errors require some effort to decode at times, though they rarely obscure the overall meaning completely. To reach a higher band, the student must produce a greater proportion of error-free sentences and improve control over punctuation and complex clause structures.
