Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by outlining the main changes and comparing the before and after layouts of the college cafe. An overall trend is provided, and key features such as the removal of staff dining rooms, the addition of a salad bar, outdoor seating, and a barbecue area are correctly highlighted. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or lack full clarity regarding precise locations. To reach a higher band level, the response would need to provide a more fully extended and detailed description of all spatial shifts without minor omissions in support.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from an introductory overview to specific details of the initial and current layouts. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different aspects of the comparison. Cohesive devices are employed, such as "Overall", "At the initial layout plan", and "Turning to present layout". However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, and referencing is occasionally unclear (for instance, linking clauses together with commas rather than proper cohesive transitions). For a higher band, the transitions between sentences could be smoother and more sophisticated.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as "delineate", "transformation", and "redevelopment". However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, including "collage" instead of college, "priveous" instead of previous, "toliets" instead of toilets, "remian" instead of remain, and "newely open" instead of newly opened. These inaccuracies indicate a limited control of word forms and spelling, preventing the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly missing articles (e.g., "after redevelopment cafe has", "at initial layout plan"), incorrect prepositions, and run-on structures without proper punctuation control. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they persist throughout the text. To achieve a higher band, the writer would need to demonstrate greater control over grammatical structures and reduce the frequency of basic errors.
