Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting an overview of the main changes between the two plans, noting specific transformations such as the replacement of staff dining rooms with a coffee bar and take away food section, and the addition of an outdoor seating area and barbecue. However, some parts of the response are more fully developed than others. For example, the description of the initial layout lacks specific detail regarding the exact placement of some features, and some points are slightly repetitive. Nevertheless, a clear general comparison is made between the past and present layouts of the cafe, satisfying the requirements for this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression, moving from an introduction to descriptions of the past layout, the current layout, and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is attempted, though it is somewhat fragmented with several short paragraphs. Cohesive devices are used, but their application is at times mechanical or awkward, such as the transitional phrases "After analysis" and "Thereafter". Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, and the connections between ideas occasionally feel disjointed, which prevents the essay from achieving a more fluid structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic ideas about the layout changes. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as "remodelling", "modification", and "redesigned", but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as "apperent" for apparent, "collage" for college, "resturant", "avaliale", and "iteams". While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score because the range is limited and imprecise in places.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as "the given compares chart illustrates", "there was various type of things", and "customers enjoy there meals". Punctuation is also problematic, with missing spaces after commas and periods. Although simple structures are generally understandable, attempts at more complex constructions frequently result in ungrammatical phrasing that requires some effort from the reader to decode.
