Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by presenting an overview of the main changes and reporting key features of the college cafe before and after its redesign, such as the new salad bar, outdoor seating, and modified counters. However, some areas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the mention of the waste disposal area being extended is slightly vague compared to the precise transformation of the staff dining rooms. While the general picture is clear and accurate according to the visual data, certain details remain under-developed, placing this aspect of the writing firmly within the relevant band for task coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible progression from the introduction to the overview and body paragraphs. Paragraphing is used to separate different aspects of the plans. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, evident in awkward transitions and referencing choices such as starting a sentence with 'After, the development the cafeteria is now extend'. Additionally, cohesive devices are sometimes awkwardly applied, meaning the logical flow between sentences occasionally stumbles rather than progressing smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying basic comparisons regarding the redesign of the cafeteria. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items such as 'redesigned', 'designated', and 'amenities', but these are accompanied by lexical inaccuracies and word-form errors, such as 'previously serving area', 'staff dinning rooms', 'coffe bar', and stating that the cafeteria is 'now extend'. These minor errors in spelling and word choice do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the descriptions without severe difficulty.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting comparative structures like 'covers a larger area than the old one'. However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly concerning verb forms, tense consistency, and adjective-to-verb confusion, such as 'the previously serving area at the North has been converted' and 'the toilets and the tables and chairs stays untouched'. Despite these errors, the structure of the sentences rarely impedes communication, meaning the core meaning remains understandable throughout the report.
