Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 150 words, stopping abruptly at only 65 words and trailing off mid-sentence. Consequently, the task is addressed only minimally and tangentially. While the candidate attempts an overview and mentions a few key changes such as the addition of a barbecue, outdoor seating, and a salad bar, the response is severely underdeveloped and incomplete, lacking the necessary detail and full comparisons expected for an academic task of this type.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
Information and ideas are not arranged coherently due to the extreme brevity of the text. Although there is a brief introductory sentence and an attempt at an overview, the lack of a proper body paragraph and the abrupt termination at the beginning of a description mean there is no clear overall progression or logical structure. Paragraphing is inadequate, and cohesive devices are virtually absent because the response is too short to develop a coherent flow of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'devlopment' instead of development, 'reveal' instead of reveals, 'cage' instead of cafe, 'advance' instead of advanced, and 'Barbeecu' instead of barbecue. These errors, alongside terms like 'staff dinning rooms', demonstrate a limited and minimally adequate range that struggles with basic word forms and spelling, which occasionally causes difficulty and strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple attempts at sentences that contain frequent errors which distort meaning. Examples include missing articles and incorrect verb forms, such as 'The following two diagrams illustrate the devlopment analysis of college cafe' and 'A glance at the diagram reveal'. Punctuation is also faulty, highlighted by a comma splice in the second sentence ('removal of serving area and staff dinning rooms,There is no change...'). These frequent errors restrict the complexity of structures used.
