Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by reporting the main features of the college cafe before and after its redesign. You present a clear overview highlighting the significant transformation of the space. Key features, such as the repositioning of the kitchen serving area into 'Hot meals', the replacement of staff dining rooms with a 'Take away food' and 'Coffee bar', and the addition of outdoor seating and a barbecue area, are properly identified and compared. While some details could be slightly more extended to fully achieve the highest bands, your coverage of the visual data is thorough and accurate, fulfilling the requirements for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding discussion of the changes. You attempt to use cohesive devices to sequence information, such as 'To begin with', 'In contrast', and 'Subsequently'. However, some of these transitions and referencing links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is generally appropriate, grouping the indoor modifications separately from the outdoor expansions. To reach a higher level of cohesion, referencing and logical transitions between sentences could flow more naturally without relying on formulaic sequencing phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary range is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the physical changes using terms like 'redesigned', 'renovated', and 'constructed'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors such as 'redesighned' and 'desighn', as well as word choice and collocation inaccuracies like 'significantly transformation' instead of 'significant transformation', and describing the cafe as 'residential' rather than 'commercial' or 'institutional'. You make attempts at less common vocabulary, but these lexical errors and typos occasionally distract the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as passive voice ('is constructed', 'is replaced'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The most dramatic change are', 'staff dining rooms will replace'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('Kitchen is remained', 'bin is replace', 'outdoor seatinig area is biuld'), and missing articles ('on south side of cafe'). These frequent errors in grammar and word forms require some effort to parse and place the response firmly at this level of grammatical control.
