Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response partially addresses the task by outlining some main changes between the two maps, such as the introduction of a salad bar, barbecue, and outdoor seating. However, the word count requirement of at least 150 words is not met, as the response falls short at 141 words. Furthermore, the selection of features is somewhat mechanical, relying on a basic listing approach rather than a well-organised summary of key spatial shifts. The overview is repetitive and lacks depth, failing to fully articulate the overall spatial transformation of the college cafe.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response lacks a clear overall progression and is hindered by poor paragraphing, as the entire text is presented as a single dense block. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as the repetitive use of conversational connectors like 'Now pouring some lights on the cafe after redesign'. Referencing is frequently unclear, and the lack of logical sequencing between sentences makes it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial comparisons effectively.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'comparesine' instead of 'comparison', 'rediesign' instead of 'redesign', 'Staaf' instead of 'staff', and 'sitting' instead of 'seating'. While the student attempts to name specific features from the visual data, these lexical slips and repetitive phrasing restrict the range and occasionally impede clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple clauses that are frequently strung together with punctuation errors and run-on phrasing. There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('there are a Kitchen'), and problems with pluralisation and subject-verb agreement ('the cafes map totally changed'). These persistent errors can cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher level of structural accuracy.
