Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response achieves a minimal treatment of the task, focusing on the changes between the two floor plans. However, the information is presented in a very simplistic and repetitive manner, relying on mechanical descriptions of what is discussed rather than a clear, analytical summary of the main features. For instance, the student writes 'Initially, the first graph tells about the kitchen' and 'The second building structure disussed about the home angle'. There is no true overview provided, and comparisons between the before and after states are largely absent. Key details such as the outdoor seating and barbecue are omitted, and the overall interpretation lacks the academic register required for this task.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The essay displays some basic organization by dividing the description into two paragraphs corresponding to the two plans. However, there is no clear overall progression or sophisticated logical sequencing. Cohesive devices are minimal and repetitive, heavily relying on sequence words like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Then' to connect sentences. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal cohesion of the text feels mechanical and disjointed. Referencing is also faulty at times, as seen when the student shifts pronoun usage awkwardly when describing the plans.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, severely limiting the precision of the description. Words such as 'graph', 'structure', and 'things' are used incorrectly or inappropriately for a architectural plan, as the student writes 'The graph was related to the building structure' and 'disussed about the home angle'. There are also noticeable spelling and word formation errors, such as 'servive', 'toilts', 'tabels', and 'helded'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are unsuccessful, and the lexical range struggles to convey the spatial features of the cafe clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying almost entirely on simple sentences and repetitive subject-verb-object patterns. There are frequent errors in grammar, tense, and word forms, such as 'In the hall of the house the bin is held' and 'coffee bar were also helded there'. Prepositional usage and agreement are also problematic. While some basic sentences are formed correctly, the frequent grammatical inaccuracies and lack of complex structures mean the response remains at a basic level.
