Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all parts of the task by presenting a clear overview of the main changes and reporting the key features of the college cafe before and after its redesign. The student identifies major transformations, such as the conversion of the staff dining rooms into a take away food area and coffee bar, the addition of a salad bar and outdoor seating with a barbecue, and the retention of the kitchen and toilets. While some details are slightly generalized, the overall selection and reporting of information are clear and relevant, meeting the requirements well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical progression from an introductory overview to specific comparative details. The writer attempts to link ideas using cohesive phrases such as 'Overall', 'Having a detailed look', and 'As further moves to the other alterations'. However, some cohesive devices feel mechanical or awkward, and referencing is occasionally imprecise. Paragraphing is present, though the division could be managed more effectively to separate the overview from the detailed body points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate the main features of the maps. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'renovation', 'redecorated', and 'alterations', but these are accompanied by noticeable word choice and form errors, including 'entery', 'seving', 'cafee', and 'staff dining rooms changes'. Spelling and morphological inaccuracies appear throughout the text, though they generally do not impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures often feature grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'The rendered maps below illustrates current map', 'two maps displayed', and 'one major inclusion added in the present cafe is outdoor seating because Multiple outdoor tables and barbecue section provided'. Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader.
