Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, containing only 45 words of student text (with 12 words copied directly from the prompt). As a result, the task is addressed only minimally and partially. The writer attempts an overview and mentions a few features such as the barbecue, outdoor seating, and salad bar, but the response is severely underdeveloped and incomplete. There is no detailed summary of the main features or comprehensive comparison between the two floor plans, preventing any higher achievement on this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text is extremely brief, consisting of only three very short sentences and broken paragraphs, which limits any real progression of ideas. Although there is a basic attempt to use an overall statement ("Overall, the Redesign..."), the lack of length and development means that cohesive devices and logical sequencing cannot be properly demonstrated. Referencing is occasionally attempted, but the overall arrangement is disjointed and fails to form a cohesive, well-structured response to the visual data.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, showing a limited range appropriate for this level. The student attempts a few topic-related terms such as "redesigned," "serving capacities," "features," and "refurbishment," but there are noticeable inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as "with addition of new features" missing an article. Spelling is generally correct, but the restricted vocabulary and lack of less common lexical items prevent the response from achieving a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammar demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying on simple or poorly connected clauses. There are noticeable errors in punctuation and grammar, such as the comma splice in the opening sentence ("This diagram illustrates, a college cafe...") and missing articles (e.g., "the addition," "a college cafe"). Furthermore, the final sentence is incomplete ("The kitchen remain unchanged with respect to indoor seating area"), lacking final punctuation and suffering from subject-verb agreement issues ("kitchen remain"). These frequent basic errors and limited structures restrict the grammatical score.
