Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two plans and report several relevant changes, including the new salad bar, recycling bins, outdoor seating and barbecue. You also note that the kitchen and toilets remain and that the central tables-and-chairs area continues. However, the overview is unclear: “it was highlight how cafe looks now” does not summarise the main transformation. Some locations are misreported or difficult to interpret, such as placing the kitchen on the south side in the current plan; it remains in the upper-left corner. The outdoor area is mentioned but its four tables and its position south of the building are omitted. To make the summary more complete, give a clear overview and describe the main changes accurately and selectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic chronological structure, moving from “cafe before redesign” to “cafe plan today,” and uses simple sequencing words such as “First,” “Firstly” and “Then.” This helps the reader recognise which plan is being described. However, progression within each section is difficult to follow because locations and features are often listed without clear relationships. For example, “one bin small room. That room near one toilets” is hard to connect to the plan, and the transition from the current café’s western features to its southern features is unclear. Paragraphing and sentence boundaries also do not consistently separate ideas. Group details by area—north, centre, east and south—and use clear comparisons to make the description easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “staff dining rooms,” “serving area,” “tables and chairs,” “salad bar” and “barbecue.” These terms show an attempt to describe the plan rather than relying entirely on general language. However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions make the meaning harder to understand: “entral gate,” “recucling bins,” “toli ets” and “seating managment.” Phrases such as “one coffee bar and one take away food rooms there” also do not express the features naturally. Build a more precise set of location and change phrases, such as “is situated,” “was replaced by” and “was added,” and check spelling and word forms before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Your sentences are mostly short and simple, with occasional attempts to connect ideas using “Then” and “also.” This gives you a basic way to report features, but the range of sentence structures is very limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes obscuring relationships. For example, “It was two rooms” lacks a clear reference, while “Both room were near” has problems with number agreement and sentence meaning. In “South side one kitchen area,” the sentence has no complete grammatical structure. Articles and prepositions are also often missing, as in “under the kitchen area” and “near one toilets.” Practise complete sentences with a subject and verb, and use consistent past and present forms when comparing the two plans.
