Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation: the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee facilities, and outdoor seating with a barbecue is added. You also note that the kitchen and toilets remain and that the serving counter now offers hot meals, so the response covers several important comparisons. This supports a clear overview, although some details are inaccurate or unclear: the salad bar is on the western wall, not the right, and the barbecue is to the south-west rather than the outer right. The claim that the café has gained “other confectionaries” is not shown in the plans. To make the account more complete and precise, describe the new southern doors and outdoor tables, and distinguish the unchanged central seating from the new facilities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an identifiable overview followed by details about the interior and exterior, and phrases such as “But now” and “Although” attempt to signal comparisons. However, progression is uneven: the second paragraph moves from the kitchen to seating, the salad bar, staff facilities and recycling without a clear spatial or comparative order. The final paragraph repeats the outdoor change and adds a vague conclusion rather than completing a systematic account. Some linking is also awkward, as in “Although, there was no outdoor sitting,” where the contrast is not smoothly connected to the preceding information. Organise the body by location or by unchanged versus changed features, and use clear references to guide the reader through each plan.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “refurbishment,” “serving area,” “take-away service” and “recycling station,” which helps communicate the main changes. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “live brewing station,” but this is not an accurate label for the coffee bar and sounds unnatural in this context. Several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “dinning,” “relapcing,” “whhich” and “setting area”; “confectionaries” is also unsupported by the plans. Choose standard map vocabulary and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “outdoor seating,” “coffee bar” and “recycling bins” would make the description clearer and more appropriate to an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “Although” and a relative clause in “where all food and drinks were displayed.” The main meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. For example, “The maps show before and after of a cafe undergone refurbishment” lacks a clear grammatical construction; “Overall, the major changes include…” needs spacing and punctuation; and “staff dinning has been replaced with live brewing station;a coffee bar” has unclear sentence structure and missing articles. The sentence beginning “Although” is also left as a fragment. Practise forming complete comparison sentences, using articles consistently, and checking punctuation around clauses and lists.
