Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main change clearly: the café gains outdoor seating, a barbecue and a salad bar, while the kitchen remains. You also report several relevant changes, including the staff dining rooms becoming a takeaway area and coffee bar, and the serving counter changing to hot meals. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the kitchen is in the north-west, not the north-east, and the hot-meals counter replaces the serving area rather than being opposite the kitchen. The description of the south-east combines the recycling bins and toilets in a way that obscures their separate positions. The response covers the key features, but some comparisons need more precise location details and clearer explanation to fully convey the plans.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, an overview and descriptions of the former and current café. This helps the reader recognise the main stages of the comparison. However, progression within the body is uneven, and several details are crowded into long sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “The kitchen was located…” The repeated use of “which” makes it difficult to see exactly what changed or remained. Some linking phrases, such as “likewise,” do not clearly connect the features that follow. Organise the details by area—for example, north, centre and south—and use clear contrasts such as “whereas” and “while” to make relationships between the two plans easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “replaced,” “addition,” “outdoor seating” and “remained,” so the reader can identify several changes. However, the range is limited and there are frequent spelling and word-choice problems, including “collage,” “tranformation,” “untoughed,” “oppside” and “constrused.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “new things” and “in current time,” which reduce clarity. Aim to use accurate, task-specific terms consistently, such as “facility,” “counter,” “located” and “was converted into.” Careful proofreading of spelling and choosing standard collocations would make the description more precise and easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the response generally communicates that the café has changed. However, errors in sentence structure, tense and agreement are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “The staff dininf rooms was situated… which has been replaced” shifts tense and has a subject–verb agreement problem; “the salad bar have been maded” also has incorrect agreement and verb form. Articles and sentence boundaries are inconsistent, as in “in the center of a cafe tables and chairs are placed.” Use past tense for the former plan and present tense for the current one, checking that each subject matches its verb. Shorter, complete sentences would help you control these forms while retaining some complex structures.
