Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the conversion of the staff dining rooms into takeaway and coffee sections, the new salad bar, recycling bins, and outdoor seating. However, some details are inaccurate: the outdoor area has four tables, not five, and the new doors are on the southern wall, rather than near the toilets. The salad bar is along the western wall, not in the middle of the seating area. The overview is also unclear and repeats a list of additions instead of summarising the main contrast between the original indoor layout and the expanded food and outdoor facilities. To strengthen the response, describe locations precisely and include the unchanged kitchen and toilets in a clear overview.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic sequence, moving from changes to the serving and staff areas to additions elsewhere, and linking words such as “Moreover” and “There is another addition” help signal new points. However, progression is not consistently clear: the final paragraph repeats features already mentioned, while the opening does not establish a concise overview. Some references are difficult to follow, such as “This area” and “they change these rooms,” because the reader must infer exactly what each refers to. Organise the report into a clear introduction, overview, and paragraphs grouping internal changes and outdoor changes. Use linking expressions selectively and make each sentence’s subject explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “Serving area,” “Hot meals,” “Recycling bins,” “Salad bar,” and “Outdoor seating,” so the main features are generally recognisable. However, the range of descriptive language is limited, and several choices are inaccurate or awkward, such as “increase it’s area” and “overall outlet of the cafe.” Spelling errors—including “illestrates,” “serveral,” “secound,” and “cahirs”—are noticeable and reduce clarity. Aim for precise map language such as “was converted into,” “was replaced by,” and “is located along the western wall.” Check spelling carefully and use standard terms consistently, for example “layout” rather than “outlet.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect ideas using longer sentences, for example, “Moreover there were staff dining rooms they change these rooms into two different sections,” but the clauses are not joined correctly. Sentence structures are limited, and errors in tense, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur frequently enough to make some relationships unclear. Examples include “They change Bin are into Recycling bins,” “There is Barbecue area is aditional,” and “which contain five Tables.” Use past forms for the redesign (“were replaced,” “was added”) and present forms for the current plan (“the toilets remain”). Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “while,” “whereas,” or “which.”
