Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of the staff dining rooms with a coffee bar and takeaway area, the addition of outdoor seating and a barbecue, and the kitchen’s continued presence. However, the overview is unclear: the opening mainly announces that you will discuss the maps, while the conclusion says several features are in the “same position” without clearly summarising the main transformation. Some details are inaccurate or imprecise. For example, the toilets are in the bottom-right corner, not the “left corner,” and the new plan has two southern doors to the outdoor seating, rather than three entrances. The “stand bar” appears to refer to the salad bar. A clearer overview and more accurate descriptions of locations would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic, useful structure: it describes the original café, then the current layout, and ends with a comparison. This helps the reader follow the broad before-and-after account. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to track because many sentences repeat the same pattern, such as “there has a” and “In the middle…”. Linking phrases including “First of all” and “On the way of conclusion” are either repetitive or unnatural, and the final paragraph does not clearly connect its claim to the details already given. Group related changes together—for example, the northern rooms and new food counters, then the outdoor additions—and use clear references such as “these rooms” or “this area” to improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” and “tables and chairs,” so the reader can recognise many features. However, the range is basic and several choices or spellings make the description less clear, including “stand bar” for the salad bar, “dinning,” “recyling,” and “facilies.” Phrases such as “develop a many facilities” and “cafe are covered the borders” do not express the intended meaning naturally. Aim for precise map vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe facilities as being “added” or “introduced,” and use “located” or “positioned” to report where features are. This would make the account more accurate and easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to describe locations and changes using simple sentences and some longer structures, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include “The two map shows,” “there has a entrance,” and “the entrance are in many sides,” where agreement and sentence construction are faulty. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “a toilets facilities” and “a outdoor sitting.” Tense and verb forms need attention: “there has removed” should be expressed as “the rooms were removed,” while “the kitchen remains” is suitable for an unchanged feature. Most sentences follow a repeated “there has” pattern. Practise accurate present and past passive forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence structures before attempting longer sentences.
