Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant changes, including the addition of outdoor seating and a salad bar, and note that the kitchen and toilets remain in broadly similar locations. However, the account only partially covers the plans and some descriptions are inaccurate or unclear. For example, you say the dining space is “separated in two space” and later that it is “divided into two separate counters,” although the central tables-and-chairs area remains; the two new counters replace the former staff dining rooms. You also place the salad bar in the east, whereas it is along the western wall, and describe the bin as being south rather than on the eastern wall. Give a clearer overview and select the main changes accurately, including the new barbecue and recycling bins.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has separate paragraphs and attempts to distinguish the current café from its former layout, so there is some basic organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because the second and third paragraphs repeat points about the salad bar and outdoor seating, while the final paragraph returns to the earlier plan without a clear comparison. Connectors such as “Moreover” and “However” do not always show a precise relationship between the ideas that follow them. Organise the report into a brief overview and then a clear comparison of the former and current layouts, grouping related features together. Use references such as “the former staff rooms” and “these new facilities” to make links between sentences clearer and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “tables and chairs,” and “outdoor seating,” which helps identify features of the plans. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated uses of “available” and “cafe.” Some word combinations make the intended meaning harder to understand: “the dining space are joined in before” does not clearly describe the former arrangement, and “the cafe has been significantly expanded” is not supported by the plans, which show added outdoor seating rather than a clearly enlarged interior. Choose precise terms for changes and locations, and vary the language used to describe additions, replacements, and retained features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response mainly relies on simple statements, with limited control of more complex sentence forms. Frequent errors in agreement and sentence construction sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For instance, “The two diagram illustrate” needs a plural subject and verb, while “the dining space are joined” and “The toilets is located” show inconsistent agreement. The opening phrase, “redesigned the look after and before the plans,” is also difficult to interpret because the sentence structure is incomplete or misplaced. Practise forming clear comparison sentences with accurate subjects and verbs, such as “Before the redesign, the staff rooms occupied the north wall; they were replaced by a takeaway counter and coffee bar.” Check articles, plurals, and verb agreement throughout.
