Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main overall change—the café became more modernised—and report several accurate comparisons, including the replacement of staff dining rooms with a coffee bar and takeaway counter, the hot-meals counter, and the new outdoor seating and barbecue. This covers the task well and shows some of the detail expected in a stronger response. However, the overview is partly repetitive and the claim that the seating area increased is not clearly supported by a comparison of the indoor layouts; the key change is the addition of outdoor seating. Some details are also unclear: the recycling bins replaced the single bin rather than an area being expanded, and the salad bar and barbecue are not counters. A more precise overview and clearer selection of the major spatial changes would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview, a paragraph comparing features, and a concluding statement. Contrast markers such as “In contrast” and “However” help signal relationships between old and new features. The progression is generally understandable, but the overview repeats similar points (“significant changes,” “more modernised,” and “increased counters”) rather than grouping the main changes efficiently. Some links are also awkward or unclear, particularly “Priviously there was no counters for salad bar and barbecue,” which does not clearly connect the two additions to their locations. The conclusion repeats the overview instead of adding useful comparison. Organise the body by location or by unchanged and changed features, and use references that make each comparison explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “layout,” “replaced,” “recycling bins,” “serving area,” and “outdoor seating,” so the main information is usually understandable. There are also attempts at more formal description, such as “underwent significant changes” and “considerably more organised.” However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate: “increased counters” is unclear, “waste bin area was expanded” misdescribes the change, and “barbecue counter” does not match the plan. Spelling errors such as “noticieable,” “Priviously,” and “redesignig” also reduce accuracy. Use the labels shown in the plan and choose precise verbs such as “added,” “replaced,” and “remained,” rather than describing features as counters or expanded areas when that is not what changed.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including contrast clauses and passive constructions, as in “staff dining rooms were replaced with…” and “has been replaced with…”. The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “The outdoor seating being most noticeable” is a sentence fragment, while “Kitchen and toilets were remained” uses an incorrect passive form. “Barbecue counter was added” also needs an article, and “as compare with” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. Tense and agreement are not always controlled consistently. Aim to make each overview point a complete sentence, use “remained” without “were,” and check articles and verb forms. More accurate control of these structures would make your comparisons clearer.
