Student answer (Band 5.0)

This graph illustrate the the college cafe design.Changes that make before and after the cafe and we also the interior of cafe changes.Overall,we seen alot of changes in cafe there are a lot things that add in a new cafe.

Firstly,i discuss before redesign we have to see small and simple kitchen that attached with serving area. After that there is wide range of area for sitting in tables and chairs then at the left side we see a staff dinning attached with two rooms and after that at the right corner we have to see a small toilets and outside a toilet there was a small bin.

Secondly, in contrast we have to see today's cafe. I starting with a big kitchen attached with hot meals area. After that, at the left corner of cafe we have to see a saalad bar and in front of that we see a big setting are with tables and chairs and beside of that we have to see take away food and coffe bar. Something new we see that are barbecue and outside sitting area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad purpose of the plans and report several relevant changes, including the hot-meals counter, salad bar, takeaway and coffee areas, and new outdoor seating with a barbecue. However, the account is only partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the kitchen is described as “big” today, although the plan shows it remains in the same corner; the staff dining rooms were replaced by takeaway and coffee sections, not simply located at the left; and the new southern doors and recycling bins are omitted. The overview, “alot of changes,” is too general to highlight the main pattern. State clearly that the central seating and toilets remain, while services and outdoor facilities have been added or reorganised.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic chronological structure: it first describes the former café and then the current layout. “Firstly” and “Secondly” help signal this division, and the reader can follow the broad before-and-after comparison. However, progression within each paragraph is often unclear because “after that” and “we have to see” are repeated, and several locations are linked without precise spatial relationships. For instance, “at the left corner” and “in front of that” do not clearly establish where the salad bar, seating, takeaway food and coffee bar are. Use a clearer overview followed by one paragraph for each plan, and organise details by location, using accurate links such as “along the western wall” and “on the southern side.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “serving area,” “tables and chairs,” “take away food,” and “barbecue,” so the basic subject is recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or repetitive: “a lot things,” “big setting are,” and “outside sitting area” do not describe the plan clearly. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “dinning,” “saalad,” and “coffe,” which reduce accuracy. Aim to use precise plan vocabulary and avoid conversational phrases such as “we have to see.” For example, describe facilities as being “located along” a wall or “replaced by” another area, and use “outdoor seating” consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response relies mainly on simple clauses, with limited control of more complex sentence forms. Errors occur frequently in sentence construction and verb forms, as in “This graph illustrate” and “we also the interior of cafe changes”; these make the opening difficult to understand. Other examples include “Overall, we seen” and “I starting,” where the verb forms are incorrect. Articles and sentence boundaries are also often missing, as in “before redesign we have to see small and simple kitchen.” These problems sometimes make relationships between features unclear. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions and build sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example: “The kitchen remains in the north-west corner, while a salad bar has been added along the western wall.”
