Student answer (Band 5.0)

The map gives the information about the changes in college cafe after renovation. I will explain the changes in upcoming paragraphs.

In the past days cafe where cafe does not redesign. There is beautiful kitchen on the top side of the map with good space along with dining area where can coustmer bring diffrent dishes and beverages. In the middle area there is for chairs and tables as well as washroom is the bottom cornor near the cafe enterance. Dustbin is also provided outside of the toilet. There are two small dining rooms direct to the enterance gate.

Moving further there are lots of changes in this cafe and builts with lots of facilities. Starting with the enterance bins and toilets are in same place in the past as well as tables and chairs. Staff dining rooms replaced by coffee bar and take away food. Service area changed with hot meals. Barbecue and salad bar build todays cafe also make outdoor seating in cafe after renovation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant changes, including the replacement of the staff dining rooms with a coffee bar and takeaway food, the change to hot meals, and the addition of outdoor seating and a barbecue. However, the account is only partial and does not give a clear overview of the main transformation. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the bin was on the eastern wall, not outside the toilets, and the new salad bar is mentioned without its location. The outdoor seating is also not described as an area south of the café with tables, and the recycling bins are not clearly distinguished from the original bin. To strengthen the response, summarise the major changes first, then compare the key features and their positions accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic two-part structure, moving from the former layout to the café today, and phrases such as “Moving further” signal a transition. This gives the reader some sense of sequence. However, progression within each paragraph is not consistently clear: the first paragraph moves between the kitchen, seating, toilets, bin and dining rooms without a reliable spatial order, while the second lists changes in a compressed sequence. “Starting with the entrance” does not lead to a clear description of the entrance area. Use a consistent route around each plan and connect each change to its location; this would make the comparison easier to follow and reduce the list-like effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “dining rooms,” “coffee bar,” “hot meals” and “outdoor seating,” so the reader can recognise the main subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, sometimes making details difficult to interpret. For example, “coustmer bring diffrent dishes” is unclear, and “builts with lots of facilities” does not naturally describe a redesigned café. Spelling errors such as “enterance” and “cornor” are also noticeable. Aim for precise plan-description language, including terms for location and change, and check spelling and collocations. For example, use “customers can buy food and drinks” rather than the unclear phrase about bringing dishes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is weak and errors occur frequently, sometimes obscuring meaning. Examples include “In the past days cafe where cafe does not redesign,” which lacks a clear grammatical structure, and “There are two small dining rooms direct to the enterance gate,” where the relationship between the rooms and entrance is not expressed correctly. Tense and agreement are also inconsistent in “Barbecue and salad bar build todays cafe.” Articles and sentence boundaries need attention as well. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions of the former plan and present-tense descriptions of the current one, using short, complete sentences before combining ideas.
