Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response gives a clear overview of the main changes: the central seating area and toilets remain, while new food facilities and outdoor seating are introduced. It also accurately describes the former staff dining rooms being replaced by takeaway food and a coffee bar, and the serving counter becoming a hot-meals section. These details address the task and are supported by relevant comparisons. Some spatial information is generalised: for example, “on the left side” does not specify that the salad bar is along the western wall, and the new southern doors and the barbecue’s position beside the outdoor seating are not explained. More precise reporting of these relationships would make the account more complete and better developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is arranged in a clear sequence, moving from an overview to the café before and after the redesign. Paragraphing helps distinguish the two stages, and linking expressions such as “Before the redesign,” “After the redesign,” and “In addition” make the progression easy to follow. This provides a coherent overall account. However, the connections between some details are fairly list-like, and the final sentence adds another change without linking it closely to the new southern access. There are also small presentation interruptions, such as the extra spaces in “The main” and before the comma in “remained ,” which make cohesion less polished. Grouping changes by location and using clearer references would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to describe the main features, with useful terms such as “replaced,” “introduced,” “remained,” and “outdoor seating.” However, the range is limited and some choices are imprecise or incorrectly formed. “Improved” gives an opinion rather than neutrally describing the redesign, while “facilitices” is a misspelling and “seatin” is incomplete. “Food areas” is also broad when the specific facilities are available, and “several tables” could be more precise because the plan shows four outdoor tables. Aim for accurate, neutral map vocabulary and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise location phrases would also help distinguish the western wall, southern entrance, and outdoor area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mixture of simple sentences and some longer structures, including “while” clauses and passive forms such as “was replaced” and “were removed and replaced.” These allow the main comparisons to be communicated clearly. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. In the overview, “several facilitices has been changed or added” has a subject–verb agreement error and an incorrect verb form; it should be structured along the lines of “several facilities have been changed or added.” The phrase “the café after and before it was redesigned” is awkwardly ordered, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent in “remained ,”. More accurate agreement, sentence framing, and proofreading are needed to make the range of structures reliable.
