Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main transformation: the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee facilities, the serving counter changes to hot meals, and outdoor seating with a barbecue is added. You also correctly note that the kitchen and toilets remain in their original locations and that the bin becomes recycling bins. This gives the report a relevant overview and covers changes in both plans. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the kitchen is described as having new sections for “beverages and food items,” which are not shown, and “Parcel Food” is not the plan’s label for the takeaway area. The new salad bar and the southern access doors could also be described more precisely. The main features are selected, but some are not fully or accurately developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an overall structure, moving from an opening and overview to descriptions of areas in the café, and it uses linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In addition,” and “Finally.” These help signal relationships between points. However, progression is not consistently clear: the second paragraph repeats the kitchen and staff-room changes already mentioned in the overview, while the final paragraph combines the toilets, salad bar, barbecue, and outdoor seating without clearly explaining their locations or connections. Some references, such as “opposite to Recycling Bins,” are difficult to follow. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by a systematic comparison of the interior changes and the new outdoor area, using location-based transitions more consistently.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt task-relevant vocabulary, including “redesigned,” “replaced,” “section,” and “recycling bins,” and the reader can generally identify the changes you mean. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word choices are frequent enough to make parts of the report difficult to interpret. Examples include “dinning,” “excahnge,” “coffe,” “Parcel Food,” and “tofdyas”; “Parcel Food” also does not accurately name the takeaway area. Phrases such as “comparative analysis of cafe” and “some bit changes” are not natural descriptions for this task. Build a more reliable set of plan vocabulary—such as “counter,” “facility,” “remain,” and “be converted into”—and check spelling and labels against the diagram.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “However” and a relative clause in “one divided and serve as a take away food.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, and punctuation often make the relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “The plan illustrates the comparative analysis of cafe of college before looks and after redesigned looks” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “kitchen was renovate” uses an incorrect verb form. Several sentences also run together without appropriate spacing or punctuation, as in the overview. Practise writing short, complete comparisons first, then combine them with accurate clauses—for example, “The kitchen remained in the same location, while the former staff rooms were converted into a takeaway counter and coffee bar.”
