Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change from the original café to the redesigned one, including the new salad bar, the replacement of staff dining rooms with takeaway and coffee areas, and the outdoor seating and barbecue. However, the overview is unclear: “different spaces used for renovation” does not summarise the main changes accurately. Several important details are omitted, such as the hot-meals counter, recycling bins, and the fact that the kitchen and toilets remain in place. Some locations are also misreported: the bin was on the eastern wall, not the left, and the toilets were in the bottom-right corner rather than in front of the entrance. Select the main changes more precisely and compare the unchanged features as well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the original and redesigned café. This gives the reader a general sense of the before-and-after comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several ideas are joined in ways that make relationships unclear. For example, “Firstly, the older cafe building enterence from east side, have a bin on left side and toilets, infront of the door” combines several locations without a clear sequence. The connectors “Firstly” and “On the other hand” provide some organisation, but the latter introduces a comparison without consistently linking specific old and new features. Group details by area and use clearer comparisons to improve flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “renovation,” “western,” “souther,” “take away food,” and “barbeque.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the description difficult to follow. For instance, “staff sitting dining rooms were installed” is not a natural way to describe the labelled rooms, while “more wide and more renovated” does not clearly express the changes shown. Spelling errors such as “enterence,” “ramined,” “madce,” and “seatting” also reduce clarity. Aim for precise plan vocabulary and check spelling; for example, describe facilities as being “located” or “replaced,” rather than saying they were “installed” or “reconstructed.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is weak and errors frequently affect clarity. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “The map below show,” and sentence structure is incomplete in “Overall, both the maps showing…” The description also has problems with articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, as in “a kitchen is also been installed” and “staff dining changed into take away food.” Several sentences begin with lowercase “and” or “as,” while others run together with full stops and commas used inconsistently. These patterns make it hard to identify the main clause and the relationship between details. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using controlled clauses and consistent past and present forms.
