Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several relevant changes, including the new coffee bar, takeaway food, salad bar and outdoor seating, and you note that the kitchen remains and the toilets are still present. However, the response only partly summarises the plans: it gives a lengthy, confusing tour of locations rather than a clear overview of the main changes. Some details are inaccurate or unclear—for example, the staff dining rooms were along the north wall, not simply “the right side,” and the new outdoor seating is reached through doors in the southern wall. You also omit important comparisons, such as the replacement of the staff rooms and the change from a general serving area to a hot-meals counter. State the overall transformation first, then select and accurately compare the key features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has separate introduction, overview and conclusion labels, and it attempts to describe the café before moving to its redesigned layout. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the account repeatedly narrates movement—“when the door open,” “then we were go,” and “come backe”—instead of organising information by location or change. Several sentences run together, and references such as “the right side” and “in front of the main door” do not make the layout clear. Linking phrases such as “on the other hand” are used, but they do not consistently establish a precise comparison. Group the information into a paragraph on the original plan and one on the current plan, using clear location references and a concise overview.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “tables and chairs,” “kitchen,” “outdoor seating,” and “coffee bar,” so the reader can identify the subject. However, the range is limited and many words are repeated, while frequent spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand: “artitacture,” “coparisons,” “saled bar,” and “beautifull.” Some expressions are also unsuitable for describing a plan, such as “we were inter the cafe” and “very amazing thing.” Use precise terms for layout and change, and check spelling carefully. For example, describe facilities as being “located along” a wall or “replaced by” another feature, rather than narrating a visit through the café.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts longer sentences and uses some sequencing clauses, but sentence structures are often incomplete or faulty, which makes relationships between features unclear. Examples include “Which set the tables and chairs” and “the right corner of the salad bar the main kitchen,” where clauses lack clear grammatical connections. Verb forms and agreement are also frequently inaccurate, as in “the door open,” “we were go,” and “the today cafe is.” Articles and prepositions are often missing or incorrectly used, and punctuation does not reliably separate ideas. Prefer controlled sentences such as “The kitchen remains in the north-west corner, while the former staff dining rooms have been replaced by a takeaway counter and a coffee bar.” Then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
