Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main change clearly: the café gains outdoor seating and a barbecue, while the former staff dining rooms become takeaway and coffee facilities. You also report the salad bar, hot-meal counter, recycling bins and the toilets’ unchanged position, so the response addresses the key before-and-after features. The overview, however, is not fully clear: “Spots were exchanged” is vague, and the opening comparison does not specify the overall pattern of internal reorganisation and added outdoor facilities. Some details are also imprecise, such as saying the bin was “right beside” the toilets; it was on the eastern wall, above them. A more precise overview and clearer location comparisons would make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the café before and after the redesign. This gives the reader a basic chronological progression, and linking expressions such as “Before the redesign” and “after the development” help distinguish the two plans. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or unclear. “Spots were exchanged” does not explain which areas changed, while “Whereas” introduces a fragment rather than a complete contrast. The long final paragraph also combines several changes without a clear spatial order. Grouping details by location—for example, north wall, interior, and southern outdoor area—and using precise references would improve the flow and make comparisons easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “redesign,” “seating area,” “installed,” and “recycling bins.” These choices show an attempt to vary the language rather than simply repeat the labels. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, including “cafe indulged with a Barbecue,” “Spots were exchanged,” and “Bins were upgraded in to recycling bins.” “Limted” is also misspelled, and “outside seating” would be more naturally expressed as “outdoor seating.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning harder to understand. Aim to use the plan’s labels accurately and choose straightforward, natural phrases for describing additions, replacements, and locations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including a comparison introduced by “while” and a longer sentence describing several changes. However, control is inconsistent, and some complex attempts are faulty. For example, “while Toilets being in the south east side” lacks a finite verb, and “the cafe increased its seating area with a outside seating” has problems with article use and sentence construction. There are also punctuation and capitalisation issues, such as the comma splice and inconsistent capital letters in “Before the redesign,The cafe.” These errors can make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, verb forms, and punctuation before finishing.
