Student answer (Band 5.0)
the illustrations designs despicts the college cafe redesign and current look
the design has been reworked and alot of changes has occurred some are significant and some are minor. they have added some new areas outside the cafe which were not there before redesigning.
current state of the cafa has alot of setting area outside the cafe which was not there before redesigning and barbecue area has also been addee there as well. on the inside the side has been added and change the staff dinning room into 2 separate room one of those is made for take away order and other for the coffee bar. apart from that there isn't any big and noticeable difference from the old design only serving area has been changed to hot meals section and the bin are converted to recycling bins
in the old design there outside was completely empty and the inside was vary unorganized and current state has introduced alot of changes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main overall change: the café has been redesigned, with new facilities outside and changes to the service areas inside. You also accurately mention the barbecue, outdoor seating, the conversion of the serving area to hot meals, and the replacement of the bin with recycling bins. However, some important details are missing or unclear. The salad bar is not reported, and the toilets and central tables-and-chairs area—which remain—could have been used to make the comparison more complete. The claim that the interior was “very unorganized” is not supported by the plans, and “there isn’t any big and noticeable difference” understates the changes. Select the main features more precisely and explain them in a clearer before-and-after comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a basic overall shape: an opening, a general overview, and paragraphs describing the current and former layouts. Some linking phrases, such as “apart from that” and “in the old design,” help signal comparison. However, progression is difficult to follow because ideas are repeated—for example, the new outdoor seating is mentioned in both the second and third paragraphs—and several sentences combine multiple changes without clear organisation. References such as “the side” and “those” are also unclear, so the reader has to infer what they refer to. Group the information by location or by changes and features that stayed the same, and use clear references and paragraph links to guide the comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “redesign,” “barbecue area,” “take away,” “coffee bar,” and “recycling bins.” These terms show an attempt to report specific features rather than relying entirely on general language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “despicts,” “cafa,” “setting area,” and “addee.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural: “the side has been added” does not identify the salad bar, while “the inside was vary unorganized” is both unsupported and vague. Use accurate labels from the plan and practise collocations such as “outdoor seating area,” “staff dining rooms,” and “the serving area was replaced by a hot-meals counter.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including “they have added some new areas outside the cafe which were not there before” and “apart from that there isn’t any big and noticeable difference.” This gives the response some structural variety, but errors in agreement, articles, tense, and sentence construction recur. For example, “alot of changes has occurred” should use a plural verb, and “the bin are converted” has a subject–verb mismatch and an unclear tense. The opening is also a sentence fragment, and punctuation is often missing between ideas. Build accurate sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “while” or “whereas”; check that subjects and verbs agree and that each sentence is properly punctuated.
