Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several important changes, including the kitchen remaining in place, the serving counter becoming a hot-meals area, the staff rooms being replaced by takeaway and coffee facilities, and outdoor seating being added. However, the account is only partial and some key details are inaccurate: the bin was on the eastern wall, not the western wall, and the salad bar is on the western wall, not the eastern side. The toilets are in the south-east corner, rather than the south-west. The overview is also unclear; a concise summary of the main changes—new food facilities and an expanded outdoor dining area—would help. Include the recycling bins and the new southern doors to give a more complete, accurate account.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic two-part structure, moving from the original café to its redesigned form, and phrases such as “According to the first diagram” and “Now turning the details” signal this shift. However, progression within each paragraph is uneven: features are listed without a clear spatial route or grouping, and the overview is not separated from the details. Some linking is awkward or repetitive, particularly “on the other hand,” which does not express a contrast in every place it is used. Organise the description by areas—for example, north and west, then the central and southern areas—and use clear references such as “In the redesigned plan” to make relationships easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant plan vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “serving area,” “tables and chairs,” “take away food,” and “barbecue,” so the reader can recognise many of the facilities being described. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the description difficult to interpret. For example, “large amount of seats” is not a natural expression, and “Salad bar make a east side” does not clearly describe its position. Repeated use of “located” and “situated” also limits variety. Aim for precise location language and natural phrases such as “along the western wall” and “an outdoor seating area with four tables.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts some longer sentence forms, including comparisons between the two plans, but control is weak and errors occur frequently. The opening, “The provided diagrams illustrates,” has subject–verb disagreement, while “how it looks like before redesigned” lacks a correct clause structure and verb form. Tense and agreement problems continue in phrases such as “toilets is situated” and “The two staff dining rooms change into.” Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “drinks. on the other hand” and “chairs .However.” These errors can make relationships between ideas unclear. Practise accurate past and present forms, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentences before attempting more complex comparisons.
