Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change from the former café to a more varied modern facility, mentioning new food areas and outdoor seating, and you note that the kitchen and toilets remain. However, the account is general and omits several key plan changes, such as the recycling bins replacing the single bin and the new southern doors connecting the café to the outdoor area. Some statements are unclear or unsupported: the café is not shown as “too small,” and the seating area is not clearly shown to have increased. The response is also 147 words, three words below the 150-word minimum; the 11 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Develop the overview around the main structural changes and describe locations more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an opening, an overview-like paragraph, and a final summary, so there is some attempt to organise the report. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the middle paragraph shifts from similarities to general comments about modernity, while the final paragraph repeats earlier points rather than adding a clear comparison. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “To summarise” are used, but they do not consistently show the relationship between ideas. The repeated references to “new cafe” and “old cafe” also make the account feel repetitive. Group the information into a clear overview and a paragraph describing the main changes, using location-based sequencing and more precise referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “kitchen,” “toilets,” “serving area,” “coffee bar,” and “outdoor seating,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “new meal menu,” “places replace,” and “according to new trend.” Spelling errors, including “aera” and “eand,” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of “new,” “area,” and “cafe” limits flexibility, while “more attractive” is an unsupported subjective description rather than a precise account of the plan. Build a wider set of neutral terms for map changes, such as “was converted into,” “was added,” and “remained in the same position,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including “Moreover, there are some new places…” and the contrast beginning “despite the fact that…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to understand. For example, “The plans illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “some places replace” uses an incorrect verb form and lacks a clear construction. The final sentence, “it can be despite the fact that old cafe had less less menu,” is structurally incomplete and contains problems with articles and comparison. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in the lowercase “looking” after a full stop. Practise accurate past and present forms and use shorter, complete sentences before attempting longer comparisons.
