Student answer (Band 5.5)

The chart map illustrates the redesinging of the resturant before and after.

Overall, the chart map shows the resturant before and after the renovation. Addition of new things and outside sitting describes the new look of the food points.

Apparantly, the chart map describes the beautiful look of the resturant after renovation and also shows the old look of the resturant. The serving area of all foods, drinks was in front of kitchen but after the renovation they put the serving of hot meals only in front of kitchen. They removed the staff dining rooms from the hall and designed new Coffee bar there also with the addition of parcels of food deleivered to customers.

On the other hand,it was also seen the the recycling bin and toilets remain on the same place where they were before the renovation. The addition of Salaad bar in the hall was a part of renovation but they also arranged a Barbecue system for customers outside the hall with a proper outdoor sitting. In my opinion, the new look of Cafe is very beautiful and customers can enjoy more in that sitting.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify several important changes, including the conversion of the serving counter to hot meals, the removal of the staff dining rooms, and the addition of a salad bar and outdoor seating with a barbecue. The overview also recognises that the café gained new facilities. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the new take-away food section is described as “parcels of food delivered to customers,” and you say the recycling bin and toilets remain in the same place, although only the toilets are explicitly unchanged; the bin becomes recycling bins. You also omit the new coffee bar’s separate position and the two new doors to the outdoor area. Covering these features more precisely and avoiding subjective comments such as “very beautiful” would make the summary more complete and objective.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the interior and then the exterior. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “On the other hand” attempt to signal relationships. However, progression is not consistently clear: the third paragraph repeats that the plans show the café before and after renovation, and “On the other hand” does not introduce a genuine contrast. Several details are crowded into long sentences, making the relationships between changes harder to follow. Group the unchanged features together, then describe the new interior facilities and outdoor area in a logical order, using linking expressions only where they accurately show the connection.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “renovation,” “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “salad bar,” and “outdoor seating.” This gives you a basic range for the task. However, noticeable spelling errors such as “redesinging,” “resturant,” “Apparantly,” and “Salaad” reduce accuracy, while some expressions are imprecise or unnatural: “chart map,” “food points,” and “parcels of food deleivered to customers.” The phrase “beautiful look” is also subjective rather than suitable for an objective report. Use precise labels from the plan, such as “take-away food section,” and check spelling and collocations carefully to make the description clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “The serving area … was in front of kitchen but after the renovation they put…” and “The addition of Salaad bar … was a part of renovation but they also arranged…”. These attempts show some variety, but errors recur and sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Articles are often missing (“in front of kitchen,” “in same place”), and the opening sentence has an awkward structure: “The chart map illustrates the redesinging of the resturant before and after.” There are also problems with sentence boundaries and punctuation, including missing spaces after commas and a run-on transition between sentences. Practise accurate article use and divide longer descriptions into clear, complete sentences.
