Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several relevant changes, including the kitchen staying in the same location, the serving counter becoming a hot-meals area, and the addition of outdoor seating, a barbecue, a coffee bar and takeaway food. However, the account is only partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear: the salad bar is on the western wall, not the east, and the recycling bins replace the bin rather than “table and chairs” remaining in place. The overview also relies on vague claims such as “more interesting things” instead of summarising the main changes in use and layout. The response is 138 words, below the required 150, which limits the opportunity to report and compare key features. Add accurate details about the toilets and central seating, and explain the former staff rooms’ replacement more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has an opening, an overview-like statement and further details, so there is some attempt to organise the information. However, progression is difficult to follow because the paragraphs do not group features consistently, and several ideas are repeated: the addition of the barbecue and the replacement of the staff rooms appear more than once. Linking phrases such as “Overall,” “In general,” and “The most interesting fact” are used, but they do not always clarify how the details relate. Some references are also confusing, particularly “Recycling table and chairs were remained at the same place.” Organise the report into a clear overview followed by a paragraph on internal changes and one on the new outdoor area, using precise references to each feature.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “serving area,” “kitchen,” “outdoor seating,” “barbecue,” and “staff dining rooms,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spelling errors make the description less precise, such as “serving ares,” “toursit attraction,” and “takeaway foor.” Phrases like “more interesting things” and “most interesting fact” are informal and do not describe map changes accurately. “Recycling table and chairs” also confuses distinct features. Aim for precise terms such as “facilities,” “replaced,” and “located,” and check spelling carefully. Avoid evaluating the redesign as interesting; report what was added, removed or relocated instead.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few different sentence patterns, including a comparison with “The serving area had been replaced by hot meals” and a clause beginning “The most interesting fact is that…”. However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features difficult to understand. Examples include “changes that were take place,” “The two maps shows,” “Kitchen were at same location,” and “staff dinnig rooms were totally replace.” These show problems with verb forms, subject–verb agreement, articles and tense. The sentence “Recycling table and chairs were remained” also uses an incorrect verb construction. Use the past simple or present perfect consistently to describe the redesign, and check agreement and verb forms in each sentence. More accurate simple sentences would improve clarity before you attempt longer structures.
