Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the overall scale of change and report several key comparisons, including the replacement of the staff dining rooms with takeaway and coffee facilities, the change from a bin to recycling bins, and the addition of outdoor seating and a barbecue. The overview that the café became more developed is relevant, and the kitchen, central tables and toilets are correctly described as remaining. This covers the main transformation and shows some of the detail expected at a stronger level. However, some locations are inaccurate or unclear: the serving counter was in the upper-left area, not the upper right, and the salad bar was added along the western wall rather than in the bottom-left. The new southern doors and the four outdoor tables are also omitted. More precise coverage of these features would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Moving further” help signal progression, and the reader can generally follow the before-and-after comparison. However, the organisation within the detail paragraphs is not consistently clear. The first paragraph moves from the upper area to the bottom-left and then outside, while the second combines staff rooms, bins and outdoor space without a clear spatial or thematic order. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “it” in “today it replaced with hot meals” are unclear. Grouping changes by location or by what was retained versus added would make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “replaced,” “remained,” “recycling bins,” and “outdoor seating,” and the meaning is usually recoverable. There is also an attempt to vary wording with “underwent significant changes” and “modernised.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “beggin,” “kithcen,” “dinning,” “foof,” “coffe,” and “availabe.” Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “tiny salad bar,” “little space acquired by barbecue,” and “huge amount of free space,” which do not describe the plan accurately or formally. Use precise terms for map features and avoid subjective size descriptions unless the visual supports them; this would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, control is uneven, particularly in the longer constructions. For example, “today it replaced with hot meals” is missing an auxiliary and has an unclear subject; “there has substantial outdoor seating is made” combines incompatible verb structures. There are also errors with articles, agreement and tense, as in “in cafe before it was altered,” “kitchen, table and chairs and toilets remained same,” and “there was free space available but today…” Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, especially the comma splice and capital letter in “hot meals, While.” Aim for complete, controlled sentences, using passive forms such as “was replaced by” where appropriate.
