Student answer (Band 6.0)

The diagram represents the information about caffetaria of university whereas it was rebuild again and change it's infrastructure.

it is clearly seen that before redesigned cafe, it had table and chair at the centre and staff dining rooms at the corner. Besides this there was toilet and bin at right corner of the cafe. Further, at the left side there was a kitchen and serving area for all food and drinks.

Moving forward, after reconstruction some changes were occur such as table, chair toilet and bin are in same direction. However, staff dining rooms are converted into take away food and coffee bar. Additionally, serving food area has been replaced with hot meals. On the other hand, they introduced salad bar at left corner below kitchen. Moreover, they also included outside sitting area and barbecue at left side.

All in all, foundation of canteen has been changed and add couple of areas such as outside sitting place, salad bar , coffee bar and hot meal so on.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main purpose of the plans and report several important changes, including the conversion of the staff dining rooms into takeaway and coffee areas, the addition of a salad bar, and the new outdoor seating and barbecue. You also note that the kitchen, central tables and chairs, toilets, and bin position remain broadly unchanged. This gives the response a relevant overview and covers the main transformation. However, some details are imprecise: the staff dining rooms are described as being “at the corner,” and the outdoor facilities are placed at the “left side” without clearly explaining their position along the southern wall. To strengthen the summary, describe the layout more precisely and distinguish the new recycling bins from the original bin.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall sequence: it first describes the original café, then the redesigned version, and ends with a brief summary. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Further,” “Moving forward,” and “Additionally” help signal relationships between points. The organisation is generally coherent, but some transitions feel mechanical, and the final paragraph repeats the idea that new areas were added rather than drawing together the most important contrasts. References such as “same direction” are also unclear because the reader cannot tell whether you mean the same location or arrangement. Use more precise links and organise the comparison around what stayed the same and what changed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a plan, including “converted,” “replaced,” “introduced,” and “included,” and the reader can understand the broad changes. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or informal for this task. “Caffetaria” is misspelled, “rebuild again” is redundant, and “outside sitting area” is less precise than the standard term for the feature shown. “Foundation of canteen” does not clearly express the overall redesign. Aim for accurate, consistent terms such as “café,” “redesigned,” “outdoor seating,” and “layout.” These improvements would make the description more precise and appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas,” “before,” and “after.” However, grammatical errors occur in several sentence patterns and sometimes make the relationships between ideas less clear. For example, “it had table and chair” needs plural forms and an article, while “some changes were occur” combines incompatible verb forms. In “they also included outside sitting area,” the noun phrase needs an article, and “foundation of canteen has been changed and add” has an inconsistent verb construction. Practise accurate past-tense descriptions and subject–verb patterns, and check articles and plurals. More reliable control of these structures would improve clarity.
