Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the two plans and give a general overview that the redesign adds facilities, especially outdoor seating, a barbecue, a salad bar, takeaway food and a coffee bar. These are relevant changes, and the comparison with the earlier café is clear in places. However, the account is selective and some important factual changes are omitted: the staff dining rooms were replaced by takeaway and coffee areas, the serving counter became a hot-meals counter, and the bin became recycling bins. The claim that the old café had less space is not clearly supported by the plans; the new outdoor area is an addition, but the interior layout is not described as smaller before. Develop the overview around the main structural changes and report the unchanged kitchen, central seating and toilets as useful comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a recognisable overall sequence: it introduces the plans, gives a broad comparison, and then lists several new facilities. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “whereas” and “while” help signal contrast. However, most of the response is presented as one continuous paragraph, and the ideas move from layout changes to a general comment about people in a hurry, then back to café features. This weakens the progression expected at this level. Some links are also awkward or repetitive, including repeated references to “the latest design” and “the old look.” Organise the report into a short introduction, an overview, and a paragraph describing the main changes, using clear location-based sequencing and fewer repeated transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “outdoor seating,” “barbecue,” “take away food” and “coffee bar,” so the reader can understand several key additions. However, the range is limited and some expressions are informal or imprecise for describing plans. “More productive” does not clearly describe a café layout, while “up to the mark” and “current need of people” sound conversational rather than analytical. There are also spelling and spacing errors, such as “arrrangement,” “iin,” and “saladbar,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation of “Barbecue” and “Coffee Bar.” Use precise terms for physical changes, such as “was replaced by,” “was added,” and “remained unchanged,” and check spelling and standard forms such as “takeaway.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including contrasts with “whereas” and “while,” and the main message is generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction recur. For example, “These two diagrams illustrates” should use a plural verb, and “designs. The first picture” needs a space after the full stop. Phrases such as “the redesigned look of cafe” and “much more better” show problems with article use and comparative forms. The long sentence beginning “Overall” also joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries, making the structure difficult to follow. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then combine them with controlled contrast clauses; proofread for subject–verb agreement, articles, comparative forms and punctuation.
