Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two plans and mention several relevant features, including the kitchen, seating, toilets, new salad bar, takeaway food and outdoor seating. However, the response only partially summarises the main changes: it does not clearly explain that the staff dining rooms were replaced by takeaway and coffee areas, or that the serving counter changed to hot meals. The claim that there are “seven rooms” and “ten rooms” is not a useful or accurate comparison, since the plans show facilities and areas rather than a simple room count. The overview is also unclear, and the final statement that there is a “big difference” does not specify the key differences. Select the most significant changes and describe them accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an introduction, a paragraph about the earlier plan and one about the current layout. This gives the reader some sense of the two stages being compared. However, progression within the paragraphs is difficult to follow: the first description moves between the kitchen, serving area, seating, staff rooms and toilets without clear spatial relationships, while the second mainly lists labels. Linking words such as “although” and “secondly” do not always show the relationship between ideas, and the ending does not provide a clear summary. Grouping changes by location or by what was replaced and added, and using clearer references such as “in the former layout” and “in the redesigned café,” would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “serving area,” “staff dining rooms,” “recycling bins” and “outdoor seating,” so the reader can recognise several features of the plans. However, the range is limited and some wording is imprecise or repeated, particularly “rooms,” “picture” and “different.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “Ther,” “brabecue” and “trash,” which make parts of the description harder to understand or less suitable for an academic report. Aim for precise terms for layout changes and facilities, and check spelling carefully. For example, describe areas as being “added,” “replaced” or “retained” rather than repeatedly calling them rooms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic sequencing, but sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to interpret. For example, “Ther are two picture one cafe redesign and cafe design in the above” lacks clear sentence boundaries and has problems with number agreement and articles. In “there are some different rooms has added,” the verb pattern is incorrect, and several clauses run together without reliable punctuation. The response also shows limited control of plural forms and sentence construction, as in “there are seven rooms kitchen.” Practise writing short, complete sentences first, then combine related ideas with accurate clauses. Check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation so that each comparison is expressed clearly.
