The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
After seeing both the plans of the cafeteria before and after, I can tell the Second plan that is currently developed with some of the things i actually noticed first and it is obviously attetion seeker for the cafe visitor.
Firstly, I see the outdoor sitting area that is designed now and it seems like a very rare but aesthetic for the todays generation, as the people coming at cafe are majorly the Youngster that are hanging out with there friends and for chilling out they will definitely Love the cafe if facing outdoor site for enjoying the scenarios outside.
Again, after that the second noticeable and pretty cool thing is tha salad bar and separate coffee and take away food bar, i mean its pretty cool idea to be kept in the cafeteria like it seems so good and in a very organized manner that any customer would love and will visit the cafe again for sure.
So, all over the idea of the cafe for plan 2 is definitely good and favourable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies a few genuine changes, especially the new outdoor seating, salad bar, coffee bar and takeaway counter. However, it mainly gives personal opinions about whether these features will attract young customers, rather than summarising and comparing the plans. Important factual changes are omitted, including the former staff dining rooms being replaced, the serving counter becoming a hot-meals counter, and the bin being replaced by recycling bins. The claim that visitors will enjoy “the scenarios outside” is speculative and does not describe a feature shown in the plan. To make the report more complete and relevant, give a concise overview of the main redesign and describe the key changes in the building and outside area objectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic sequence, moving from the outdoor seating to the new food and drink facilities and then to a concluding opinion. Paragraph breaks help separate these points, and phrases such as “Firstly” and “after that” signal progression. However, the organisation does not follow a clear comparison of the before and after plans, and the opening sentence is difficult to follow. “Again, after that” is an awkward transition, while “So, all over” does not provide a clear summary of the layout changes. Organise the report around an overview followed by grouped comparisons, and use linking expressions to show how each feature changed rather than simply listing reactions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The writer uses some relevant vocabulary for the plan, including “outdoor sitting area,” “salad bar,” “coffee” and “take away food.” There are also attempts at descriptive language, such as “organized manner.” However, the vocabulary is often informal or imprecise for an IELTS plan summary: “pretty cool,” “rare,” “aesthetic” and “attention seeker” express personal reactions rather than accurately describing the redesign. Spelling and word-form errors, including “attetion,” “todays” and “there” for “their,” are noticeable and can distract the reader. Use neutral, precise terms such as “added,” “replaced,” “located” and “seating area,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and subordinate clauses, for example, “as the people coming at cafe are majorly the Youngster…” and “it seems so good and in a very organized manner that any customer would love.” These attempts show some range, but the structures are often faulty or difficult to follow. Articles and prepositions are missing or inaccurate in phrases such as “at cafe” and “facing outdoor site,” and the opening sentence has an unclear construction: “I can tell the Second plan that is currently developed…” Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “Second,” “Youngster” and “Love.” Prefer clear, controlled sentences describing the plans, and check articles, sentence structure and punctuation.
