Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify the topic as changes to a college café and mention two genuine developments: outdoor seating and a barbecue. However, the response is far too incomplete to summarise the plans: it stops after “The most noticeable development was” and gives no details about the kitchen, food counters, salad bar, recycling bins, toilets, or the retained central seating. The overview is also limited and does not compare the main internal changes. The required minimum of 150 words is not met; at 45 words, there is not enough information to address the task adequately. To improve, complete the comparison and select several key changes, including what stayed the same as well as what was added or repurposed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overall statement, and “Overall” signals a summary. This gives the reader a small amount of direction. However, the response ends mid-sentence at “The most noticeable development was”, so there is no developed sequence of details or concluding comparison. The relationship between the two plans is only briefly established, and the ideas are not grouped into a clear account of internal and external changes. Complete the unfinished sentence, then organise the report into an introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs comparing the main features. Use simple links such as “while” and “in addition” to show contrasts and additions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a few relevant terms from the task, including “Outdoor seating” and “Barbecue”, and “significant changes” is an appropriate general phrase for an overview. However, the vocabulary range is very limited because the response is so short, and several spelling or word-choice problems reduce accuracy: “rennovation” is misspelled, while “placed at outdoor” is not a natural collocation. “Changes in college cafe” is also imprecise for describing a redesign. Build a wider set of accurate plan-description phrases, such as “was added”, “was converted into”, “remained in the same position”, and “along the southern wall”, and check spelling before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt more than one sentence pattern, including a general overview introduced by “Overall”, but control of basic sentence grammar is inconsistent. In “The maps illustrates”, the plural subject requires “illustrate”. “Given two maps compares between…” is not a complete, well-formed sentence: the subject and verb relationship is unclear, and “compare” does not take “between” in this construction. The final line, “The most noticeable development was”, is unfinished and has no complement. These errors make the short response difficult to follow and leave little evidence of a controlled range. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use a reliable comparison frame, for example, “The plans compare the café before and after its redesign.”
