Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the overall redesign and mention several key additions, including the coffee bar, takeaway food, salad bar, outdoor seating and barbecue. You also note that the toilets remain and that the kitchen is still present, so the response addresses the main comparison. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the old serving area is described as being on the right, although it is beside the kitchen, and the claim that the kitchen is “extended” is not supported by the plans. The statement that the café developed in “almost all directions” is also vague. To strengthen the report, describe the most important changes precisely, such as the former staff rooms becoming food-service areas and the new southern outdoor seating, while distinguishing these from features that stayed the same.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic overall shape: an introduction, a general overview, and a description of the former and current café. This gives the reader some sense of comparison. However, progression is difficult to follow because several ideas are crowded into long, loosely connected sentences. For example, “Overall, It can be seen…” combines many features without clearly grouping changes and unchanged elements, while “Lets have a look…” shifts abruptly into a tour of the old plan. Linking words such as “Furthermore,” “However,” and “Moreover” are used, but they do not always clarify the relationship between points. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and each plan, and organise details by location or by what changed versus what remained.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to describing a redesign, including “prominent changes,” “modification,” “infrastructure,” and “equipped.” However, word choice and spelling errors are frequent enough to make some phrases difficult to interpret, as in “residence,” “develope,” “salaad bar,” and “dust bin.” Some expressions are also unsuitable or imprecise for a map report: “all four sides of the area with full details” and “Pouring some light” do not communicate the intended information naturally. Prefer straightforward, accurate terms for locations and changes, such as “along the western wall,” “was replaced by,” and “was added.” Careful proofreading of spelling and collocations would make your descriptions clearer and more appropriate to the task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, particularly when several clauses are joined. For instance, “Lets have a look at the old cafe before desighn firt of all enter the cafe you saw…” lacks clear sentence boundaries and shifts awkwardly between imperative and past-tense forms. There are also errors in sentence structure and articles, as in “how looks now” and “a reception,” and punctuation is often missing after sentence openings and between clauses. These problems sometimes make the intended relationships unclear. Build accuracy with shorter, complete sentences first, then add controlled complex forms using clear conjunctions. Check subject–verb structure, tense consistency, articles, and full stops when editing.
