The plans below show a college cafe before it was redesigned and how it looks now.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The 2D structure of cafe has shown in the plan. The 2D structure clearley reflects that before and todays plan. In comparison of both the structure there are lot of change in before and today. Moreover toaday cafe seems like even biger as compare to before one. In adding in cafe before redesigh kitchen has been included the serving area as well it seems like very consisted, although cafe today has even more space. Cafe today having a big kitchen because they haven't included the serving area there. Cafe before resdesigh has indicates two staff dining rooms, In contast the cafe today smartly utilize those rooms into a two seperate sections. 1 is for takeaway and another 1 is for coffe bar so, I clearly see a smart diffrence her in both plan. Cafe before resdesigh has no salad bar, but in todays cafe I see there is seperate salad bar, Additionally, Cafe today has a seperate babecue section, I see it's well organized and well planned section.
Cafe before redesigh has no outdoor seating area, and cafe today has that and it's even look like more spacious and attraction sopt of the entire cafe.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify several important changes, including the conversion of the staff dining rooms into takeaway and coffee-bar sections, the addition of a salad bar, and the new outdoor seating and barbecue. These are relevant and generally match the plans. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the kitchen is described as “biger” today, although it remains in the same corner, and the serving counter is relabelled for hot meals rather than the serving area being included in the kitchen. The overview that the café is “even biger” is not clearly supported by the plans. You also omit notable features such as the recycling bins and the toilets remaining in place. A more precise overview and clearer reporting of the unchanged features would make the comparison more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a broadly sensible before-and-after order, moving from the kitchen and staff rooms to the added facilities and outdoor area. Linking phrases such as “In contrast” and “Additionally” help signal comparisons. However, the writing is presented as one long paragraph, so the overview and supporting details are not clearly separated. Several transitions are repetitive or awkward, including repeated use of “Cafe before redesigh” and “Cafe today,” while “Moreover” and “although” do not always express the relationship between the ideas clearly. Some sentences also combine several points without a clear progression. Use a short introduction and overview, followed by organised detail paragraphs, and choose linking expressions that accurately show contrast or addition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant terms, including “staff dining rooms,” “salad bar,” “outdoor seating area,” and “barbecue section,” which help communicate the main changes. However, vocabulary is often repetitive or imprecise: “structure” is used where “layout” would be more natural, and “big” does not clearly describe the changes shown. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “clearley,” “resdesigh,” “coffe,” and “diffrence,” alongside awkward phrases such as “smartly utilize those rooms.” These errors sometimes make the description harder to follow. Build a more accurate range of plan-description vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully; precise terms such as “converted,” “remains,” and “added” would help distinguish changes from features that stayed the same.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and longer sentences, including comparisons with “although” and “In contrast.” However, many sentences contain errors in basic structures, and attempts to combine ideas are often faulty. For example, “The 2D structure of cafe has shown” needs a passive form such as “is shown,” while “Cafe today having a big kitchen” is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. Articles and agreement are also inconsistent, as in “a two seperate sections,” and tense and sentence construction are unclear in “it’s even look like.” These problems sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Practise complete sentence patterns, consistent present-tense descriptions of plans, and accurate articles and subject–verb agreement before adding more complex clauses.
